Are the downpipes blocked at all? Some downpipes are concealed within the eave so if a tile can be moved to check the downpipe, during the gutter clean is an excellent time to check whether any debris has built up within the downpipe.

On the other hand, Australian Institute of Health and Welfare statistics reveal that the peak age for DIY injuries is 30-34 years so it would appear there is no safe age for clambering about on your roof or climbing ladders to do your own guttering maintenance work. As home outdoor areas were the most common areas where a fall occurred (45 per cent), it would make sense instead to get your gutters cleaned by a roof plumber who spends most of his days going up and down a ladder getting on and off roofs.
